Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Japanese Izakaya, shell seafood were fresh, limited choice of Sashimi and sake, little interaction with server, service was acceptable, reasonable price"
"Ox tongue, oysters, tofu r good. octopus too fried. Ventilation not good, strong smell. Male waiter is polite."
"Nice crab, sashimi, salad. Highly recommended. Can book with eatigo / Openrice (many discount)! But it is worth even without any discount."
"This Japanese seafood restaurant, Nan Ei Sui San, is located on Level 5 of the Tern Plaza on 5 Cameron Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. It appears to be a Japanese restaurant run by local Hong Kong people, but the seafood seemed imported. It is a few minutes walk from B2 Exit of the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station. We arrived at around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Just take note that they are usually closed between 3pm to about 5pm I think each day between the lunch and dinner sessions. The last lunch order is at 2:20pm, but they serve things relatively quick. The waiter who served us was polite and friendly, which appears to contradict some of the other reviews I have read. Ordered (total cost around HK$800 for two people): - Ox Tongue: This is quite different to your typical grilled ox tongue you get from japanese izakaya restaurants as Nan Ei thick-cut the tongue and marinade overnight. It has a soft texture (compared to the slight chewiness of the thin cut version) and smoky from the charcoal grill. The fresh squeezed lemon went well with the tongue. - Cold Soba Noodles: Properly cooked buckwheat noodles in a light soy sauce base with some fresh cut spring onion and wasabi. A simple dish, but done well. - Deluxe Kaisen Don: Uni (Sea Urchin), Fatty Salmon Belly, Toro (Tuna Sashimi), Large Prawn, Salmon Roe, Kingfish with fresh wasabi and pickled ginger. Quite fresh and big pieces of sashimi. It was pricey but I think this is typical of japanese restaurants in Hong Kong. - Deep Fried Oysters: Lacked the original oyster taste and wasn't as good as some of the deep fried oysters we've had in Japan."
"Environment, service, food quality are good. But too expensive. Must try with Eatigo half price offer."
"Nice environment and good food. Recommend seafood which is grilled by waiters by the table."
"Nice restaurant! Staff are very nice to serve each of us. Seafood is fresh and delicious! Would definitely visit again!"
"One month old Japanese restaurant for causal dining. Seafood for grill, sashimi, or tempura are super fresh & tasty. The staffs are attentive & know their menu well. They are well trained to grill our seafood (at our table) to perfection too. They carry a good range of Japanese sake. Perfect dining experience. It will be my regular for gathering. Highly recommended."
